The
Jungle Butterfly Farm is the culmination
of a twenty-six year long journey for Michael Malliet. From my early
college years I focused on studying biology and concentrated vigorously
on the field of insect study. Over the years my continued pursuits
in this area led me to a career as an Air Force entomologist in the
United States military, a position as a research assistant at the
Graduate School of Insect Biochemistry at Harvard University in Cambridge
Massachusetts, a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Southampton
College of Long Island University and ownership of a successful pest
control business. I presently have collected and maintained a museum
quality reference collection of over 10,000 insects. I greatly enjoy
lecturing on this topic and have been featured in newspapers and on
television and radio.
The constantly changing needs for control in the insect world and
a better understanding of the interrelationships between animals has
always been a high priority. Some species of insects have suffered
unintentionally as a result of pesticide use or clear cutting land
for agriculture and cattle farming. So much so that in recent years
I have shifted the focus of my energy entirely towards rearing butterflies
and educating the public. The unique opportunity to accomplish this
on the Pacific coast in Costa Rica beckons my response. |
